Sanganois Fish & Wildlife Area is at the junction of the Sangamon and Illinois river. The area lies in southwest Mason County, northwestern Cass County, and one small portion in Schuyler County. Sanganois is one of the few state-owned refuges.
Sanganois Fish and Wildlife Area is a bottomland environment comprised of sloughs, backwater lakes, timbered ponds and bottomland timber comprised of willow, maple and cottonwood. Both the Illinois and Sangamon rivers contribute to the ecology of the area. There are approximately 60 waterfowl blind sites and approximately 500 acres that are open to walk-in hunting.
Fishing
The check station and major access area is located 8 miles northwest of Chandlerville, off Rt. 78. An access road and boat ramp is located 1.5 miles northeast of Browning off Rt. 100. Public access is largely by boat.
