Nature Trek: A Glacial Perspective

January 26 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm CST

Free

Did you know glaciers contributed to the formation of the Illinois River Valley? Learn about how the last Ice Age shaped the present-day landscape.

Participants will meet at The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Office, 11304 N. Prairie Rd., Lewistown. There will be a sign-in table, followed by coffee and a short tour of the LEED-certified building. We will then hike up the ridge over-looking The Nature Conservancy’s Emiquon Preserve. Information will be presented by Dickson Mounds Museum and The Nature Conservancy’s  staff. Participants must dress appropriately for the outdoors, provide their own water and snacks, and be able to hike comfortably with an elevation gain and across uneven terrain. If the weather doesn’t permit a hike, Dr. Mike Wiant will conduct a presentation titled: Illinois River/Valley history: Ongoing geological research provides new information indoors instead. This program is sponsored by the Emiquon Partnership. Free.
